I’d never been to Penrith before, everytime I have ever ventured anywhere into the Lake District it was always met with wind and rain…though I’d heard amazing things and assured I was just unlucky. I’m sure now I must have been saving all the bad luck to exchange for absolutely amazing luck in the form of meeting Calandra and Colin when they asked me to photograph their Wedding which would be celebrated in Penrith, Cumbria at a venue you can only dream of working at, that place being Askham Hall.
A scenic drive to an astounding manor house surrounded by real English nature, I could smell the fresh air alongside hearty food being prepared on the stone ovens which neighboured the rustic barn in which this couple would marry!
This Wedding in August was the ultimate celebration and coming together of family from around the country. Cally was a true artist when bringing the style of this together, applying her own personality and talent to the guests favours and table decorations which fit perfectly into the stylistic setting. The weather was not a disappointment as I walked with the happy couple down to the venues own private gardens and photographed their portraits, capturing the iconic blue skies and sunshine looking down onto a couple so clearly made for one another.
The day itself was full to the brim with hearty love, big laughter and tears of joy. And of course music played a big part in the celebration as the speeches became songs, Colin performed a song on guitar for his Bride and last but most definitely not least the Scottish heritage shone not only throughout the day in the attire but into the evening as a traditional Ceilidh band played to guests ensuring everybody was up taking part in the party!
So it’s fair to say I am now a massive fan of the Lake District and Cumbria! Penrith will now hold dear memories of this glorious day for me. Won’t forget this one in a hurry!
